“Ready Set Roll,” the hit single by former UNC linebacker turned bro-country archetype Chase Rice, was the best worst song of 2013. It’s country in that there might be a banjo and pedal steel somewhere. Rice also has a Southern accent, a “pretty girl” and a truck, the latter two of which were made for each other. Mostly, it’s an irresistibly ersatz concoction of rock and Southern rap, with canned synth arpeggios and drum machines. The crass lyrics are almost perfectly generic, save for a few rhetorical flourishes both wince-inducing and clumsily poignant. Second single “Gonna Wanna Tonight” hasn’t had the same impact on the country charts, which makes sense, because it’s an alt-rock ballad. Even when playing the romantic, Rice can’t resist one louche chuckle to let on what he’s really gonna wanna do tonight. Raise a Solo cup for his “JD and Jesus Tour.” JD probably means Jack Daniels, though it could be Jermaine Dupri; meanwhile, Jesus wept. —Brian Howe
