Charanga Carolian, Gamelan Nyai Saraswati

When: Tue., April 14, 7:30 p.m. 2015
Price: free
Two student orchestras perform music from opposite sides of the globe. From Cuba comes charanga, which fuses Western classical strings and woodwinds with Latin percussion. From Indonesia comes gamelan, an indigenous array of gongs, mallets and metallophones. This biannual World Music Concert unites yin and yang, East and West, collective contemplation and dance party. —Sylvia Pfeiffenberger
