Chairmen of the Board, The Executives

When: Sat., Feb. 4, 10 p.m. 2012
Price: $10-24

Soul brothers from another generation, The Chairmen came together when the immortal songwriting team Holland-Dozier-Holland left Motown and started their own label. They enjoyed minor success in the early '70s and have been an off-and-on regional attraction for years, billing themselves as Carolina Beach music behind their sunny soul standard "Carolina Girls." Somewhere between classic R&B and its funkier cousin, they still turn it out, despite the recent loss of the last remaining original member, lead singer General Norman Johnson. Ken Knox, who joined in 1978, reformulated the act with two new members last year, and they're apparently working on a new album. The Executives open the 10 p.m. show. —Chris Parker
