Re: “Opening night at Raleigh Ensemble Players' new theater

Nothing fishy here, Theatrejunkie...
REP's production of JUDAS was originally scheduled (in July 2010) to open on February 4, 2011 and run through the entire month. However, construction and funding delays threw a big wrench into our season planning and forced the company to consider a March opening.
After consulting the cast (who committed to doing the show in July 2010), it became clear that more than half of the actors had commitments with other companies beginning mid-March. So, it was either share the work for a limited run or not share it at all.
Armed with this info, we made the choice to open the show last night (3/9) and held our breath in hopes that all would go well with final inspections, which by the way we completed and passed on Monday, 3/7.
REP is thrilled to be able to share Guirgis' beautiful play with the public, even if it is only for a limited time, and I'm sorry that you won't be able to experience it.
C. Glen Matthews,
REP's Artistic Director
