Center Stage series with Dave Alvin & the Guilty Ones, Aoife O’Donovan

When: Fri., Sept. 20, 6-9 p.m. 2013
Price: Free
This free show, part of WUNC's Back Porch Music Series, effectively showcases the legacy and horizons of local label Yep Roc Records. Headliner Dave Alvin will run through songs from his 10 years with the label (as well as a few from further back), blending rock 'n' roll, blues, country and folk with an expertise and intensity that very few of his peers can match. New to the Yep Roc roster is Aoife O'Donovan, whose early years with string band Crooked Still hinted at the rise of a major new vocalist in the vein of Emmylou Harris and Alison Krauss. She delivered on that promise with her recent full-length solo debut, Fossils. —Peter Blackstock
