I think we need to ask ourselves a broader question - not "is this good for me" - but whether we want a more progressive tax system or not? In my opinion we do. So I think the food tax is a better option. Property tax is a regressive tax, because it is passed on to people who spend a larger portion of their income on housing (renters). Most folks do not own their own home, but they still pay property tax through their rent. This food tax is a more progressive tax than the property tax.
