Cave Singers, Lia Ices

When: Mon., March 28, 9:30 p.m. 2011
Price: $8-$10

For all the (and, admittedly, our) talk about the recent glut of Triangle venues, here's another instance where having two area midsized rock clubs helps. While Mike Watt's new band will fill Local 506, two admittedly less legendary but compelling young acts will play Kings. New York's Lia Ices writes gorgeous tangles of songs, with keys, strings and vocals that wind and build in surprising shapes. Not quite pop, not quite orchestral, Ices' tunes find a rarefied nexus of accessibility and complexity. Cave Singers, meanwhile, mirror the quest of bands like Megafaun and Califone, who seek an experimental home for music built from a bedrock of American folk. —Grayson Currin
