Cave Christmas with Evil Wiener

When: Sun., Dec. 19, 10 p.m. 2010
Price: $5

Being the homespun, familial intoxication cellar it is, The Cave rewards its generous patrons with what we all crave—free vittles, cheap beer and a little soft shoe. While it might not be vaudeville, Evil Wiener is Chapel Hill's best answer to the comedy-music variety show. Leader Billy Sugarfix's earnest, cockeyed songs recall Jonathan Richman in his Modern Lovers days. He writes in a variety of styles, though he's particularly adept at British Invasion pop and classic Buddy Holly-style rock, all delivered with a healthy dose of wry wit and quirk. Come early for the potluck and beer specials, and stick around for some humorously malevolent sausage. The food starts at 7 p.m.; the music begins at 9 (with $5 admission). —Chris Parker
