Cassie Taylor

When: Mon., May 13, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $6-14

Daughter of the renowned bluesman Otis Taylor, Cassie keys on the experience of singing and playing bass in her papa's band with tight and fiery songs that benefit from the sultry allure of her voice. Her songs make do with staid arrangements; she plays the blues largely by the numbers, with exacting guitar rollick, peals of too-pristine organ and harmonica bleats that border on polite. That musical plainness highlights her vocal performances—passionate and adventurous, challenging her range without pushing listeners too far— but they're often the only thrill to be found. —Jordan Lawrence
