Re: “Why a sex change is not extraordinary

@ as400_guru - My response follows to your comment, "Cutting of any body parts is extraordinary. People don't normally do this."

Surgeons do the cutting and they do so for medical reasons well-established by the AMA, NASW, APA, and WPATH. Virtually all major medical authorities, hundreds of major companies, and the US court systems recognize the serious medical conditions that transgender people face and they provide appropriate standards of care accepted not only in the US, but internationally as well. Further they don't cut it off, they just re-arrange it into an "innie" instead of an "outtie."

Medical science knows what to do and deals with the situation like they would with any other serious medical condition. The tools available include therapy, medications, and surgeries - all aimed at helping a transgender person align their body to match their mind.

Sure it's not voodoo, thousand year old thinking, or in-line with some religious beliefs, or in-line with the opinion you expressed, but it is consistent with modern medical thinking.

Re: “Why a sex change is not extraordinary

This is a terrific blog and one I will share with others. This year I have the opportunity to address 165 students in a medical school. I will include this story in my discussion and with your permission, I'd like to make it handout.

Without any doubt I so see your points. Having written well over 500 blogs about my experiences, with many being post transition, a recent comment by one pre-transition TG reader said I put her to sleep. The point of many of blogs these days is that my life is ordinary, filled with shopping, girlfriends, babysitting, working though I am very active in helping pass laws in MD (same sex marriage, TG non-discrimination) and getting companies to change their EEO policies to include "Gender Identity and Expression".
