Carolina's Funniest Comic

When: Fri., April 5, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $14
A lot of people don't know this, but America's Founding Fathers were chiefly concerned with two things: Establishing democracy and supporting local comedy. Early drafts of the Constitution detailed citizens' sacred duty to go out to the comedy taverns regularly. Philadelphia's Laugh Smithy was a big hot spot. Sadly, Jefferson and Madison—those stiffs—excised the funny business and decided instead to focus on life, liberty, etc. The rest is history. But you can still do your duty this weekend at the final event of the sixth annual Carolina's Funniest Comic competition, produced by Carrboro's DSI Comedy Theater. After three rounds of tournament competition, the initial pool of 30 local comics has been narrowed to four. The winner is determined by audience ballot. Get out there and vote! —Glenn McDonald
