FLETCHER OPERA THEATER—Real ballerinas wear black and white, not pink and purple. And it's tights and T-shirts instead of lace and tulle. With its spare staging and monochromatic costumes, George Balanchine's 1946 ballet The Four Temperaments, set to music by Paul Hindemith, replaces the medieval humours—phlegmatic, melancholic, sanguinic and choleric—with grace, power, balance and presence. The startling effect is that you're seeing something real; not a trifling fiction. The program also includes Balanchine's Allegro Brilliante and Tarantella along with Robert Weiss' Grosse Fuge and his premiere of The Double. 8 p.m. Feb. 57, 14 and 21; 2 p.m. Feb. 78, 1415 and 2122, $30.14$73.14, 2 E. South St., Raleigh, 919-719-0800, —Chris Vitiello
