RALEIGH MEMORIAL AUDITORIUM—Before its inevitable December run of The Nutcracker, here's something more substantial from Carolina Ballet: revivals of two significant works by artistic director Robert Weiss. His 2012 staging of his choreography for Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 culminates in a tour de force visual translation of the famous "Ode to Joy." It's paired with his 2002 interpretation of Igor Stravinsky's Petruschka, an update that's not as dark as original choreographer Michel Fokine's take. In it, three clowns vie for the affections of the matchless ballerina, Columbine, in what Weiss terms "a circus of the mind." 8 p.m. Thurs.–Sat.; 2 p.m. Sat.–Sun., $25–$70, 2 E. South St., Raleigh, 919-719-0900, —Byron Woods
