CANCELED: Meghan Trainor, Life of Dillon, Charlie Puth

When: Tue., Aug. 18, 7 p.m. 2015
Price: $27.50
Last year, Nantucket-born growler and songwriter Meghan Trainor stepped into the cavern of low expectations and high dudgeon that is the “feminist” debate of pop culture with the sorta-rap, sorta-doo-wop number “All About That Bass.” Thanks to that year’s fixation with the female posterior (and the outrage of skinny women who thought Trainor was “shaming” them), it sat atop the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks; she subsequently released the even more irritating “Dear Future Husband,” a piece of clickbait set to a track that, to its credit, melodically ripped off Hall & Oates’ sublime “Say It Isn’t So.” On her debut LP, Title, Trainor comes off like a less talented Duffy, vocally frying up ideals about body positivity and being true to oneself through a prissy veneer. Her guest appearance on fellow chart-topper Charlie Puth’s excruciatingly context-free come-on “Marvin Gaye” (sample lyric: “I’m screaming mercy, mercy please/Just like they say it in the song”) reveals how deep her retro feelings run. —Maura Johnston
