Re: “Saturday, October 13

BOYCOTT the GAY PLAY in Durham! An abominable musical theater production is now underway in Durham that promotes and celebrates the gay lifestyle. Thanks to your 8 Days a Week recommendations from 10/13, this matter has been brought to my organizations attention. Even worse, this musical, OVER THE RAINBOWS, is being presented at a notorious downtown bar known as Ringside that has the temerity to be frequented by both gay and straight patrons. And it gets more offensive still! Unbelievably, this theatrical monstrosity, Over The Rainbows, dares cross the line that rightfully separates gay from straight! On the official Ringside MySpace page, Over The Rainbows is described as such: Henry, a gay man with delusions of grandeur, attempts to transform a somewhat crude but physically irresistible straight mechanic into his metrosexual ideal with catastrophic consequences. Theres more. I have it on first hand report from several members of Called2Adam who attended early performances of the play incognito that it provokes uncontrollable, possibly contagious giggles. Call them the gay giggles. Over The Rainbows also reportedly contains frequently lurid and offensive dialogue. Some examples include: We need a straight day, for people who are not gay. Straight guys are wasted on women. What the world needs most of all are cigarettes and cocktails - without anyones permission! This is beyond offensive. This is intolerable. As it is written in the official Called2Adam handbook, gay and straight must never mix. A musical comedy in 2 acts like Over The Rainbows is an affront to all the members of my organization, Called2Adam, Durhams largest group for recovering gays. As a result, we urge the community to boycott all remaining productions of Over The Rainbows at Ringside, located at 308 W Main Streeet, Durham, 919-680-2100. DO NOT GO to see the musical next Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, Oct 26-28, Fri & Sat 8 pm, Sun 3 pm. DO NOT CALL TO RESERVE TICKETS at 919-491-8576. DO NOT VISIT the Ringside website for more details at, or the Ringside MySpace page at Myself and the members of Called2Adam thank you. Steve Ignoble Chair, Called2Adam, the largest organization for recovering gays in Durham
