Calexico, Gaby Moreno

When: Sun., Sept. 27, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $22-$25
Ever since Joey Burns and John Convertino split off from Giant Sand in the late ’90s, they’ve been committed to cultural border hopping bold enough to become a Trump campaign talking point. Over nine studio albums, the Tucson band has melded domestic strains of folk, country, surf and post-rock with Latin styles like mariachi, Tejano and even the stray cumbia dance beat. The band’s latest, and gently dramatic, record, Edge of the Sun, features a typical mix of collaborators familiar and unfamiliar to American indie, including Guatemalan singer Gaby Moreno, from the latter category, who opens. —Jeff Klingman
