Burning Palms, Zack Mexico

When: Sat., Oct. 18, 9 p.m. 2014
Price: $5
The Tucson-based quintet Burning Palms released a self-titled disc on Lollipop Records early this summer, but they’re not quite as sugary as that association may suggest. Sure, they’ve got hooks, but they link them to a doleful rhythm section and wrap them in distortion that forms ripples inside hazy drones. It’s desert goth played with an early and willful rock ’n’ roll fundamentalism. The beach bros of Zack Mexico make fitting gig-mates, as they swerve and plow through distorted melodies of their own. —Grayson Haver Currin
