Built To Spill, Slam Dunk, Genders

When: Wed., Oct. 30, 8:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $20-23
On their mid-'90s classic, There's Nothing Wrong With Love, Idaho's Built to Spill made relatable rock with a vivid sideways slant. They jumped up to a major label, Warner Bros., to release Perfect From Now On in 1997. They used the large platform to get darker and more abstract. The subsequent Keep it Like a Secretfelt brighter and tidier without spackling over leader Doug Martsch's distinctly cracked point of view. But those were very different times. Built to Spill's recent work has dropped off from that career peak. —Jeff Klingman
