Built Forged Faked

When: Jan. 10-Feb. 7 2012

Each spring, UNC-Chapel Hill's Ackland Museum hosts a noteworthy show of the school's graduating MFA studio art students. Two current shows provide the opportunity to see the first-year students' work as well. Built Forged Faked, a group show at the Hanes Art Center's Alcott Gallery opening Tuesday with a 6–8 p.m. reception and running through Feb. 7, will be interesting to log in the memory to compare to the graduation show of this class in 2013. Most of the students are doing video and installation work, so expect a challenging archeological field of objects and moving images. Artists include Lauren Salazar, Michael Iauch, William Thomas, Damian Stamer, Stephen Taylor, Ali Halperin, Nicole Bauguss, Julia Gootzeit and George Jenne. This list of contributors has some overlap with the Don't Be Intimidated by This Painting show at UNC's Friday Center, which has been extended to Jan. 27. —Chris Vitiello
