Bubonik Funk, George Tisdale Band, Roshambeaux

When: Wed., July 3, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $5

Bubonik Funk, a self-professed "rock" foursome from Charlotte inspired by classic funk, has the rowdy energy of a bar band. But its musical machinery could use some fine tuning, and its "B-Funk" covers and originals are charged with more rambling whimsy than badassery. To really set that funk on fire, with experienced musicians who can solo on cue, aim for the sweet middle spot on this triple bill: the Aretha-voiced George Tisdale and his tuba-based rhythm section, equally adept at the idioms of gospel, R&B, marching band and contemporary pop. Georgia guitar/drums duo Roshambeaux opens. —Sylvia Pfeiffenberger
