Bruce Feiler

When: Mon., May 24, 7:30 p.m. 2010

People have varied reactions when confronted with death. But author Bruce Feiler's first thought was for his young family. When Feiler was diagnosed with cancer in 2008, he began picturing his daughters' futures without him. He then made a list of six men from various points in his life who could best approximate his views for 3-year-old twins Eden and Tybee. Among the lessons Feiler wishes to impart to his girls are the love of travel and the ability to "live the questions." He ably mixes memories with modern-day uncertainty in his latest book, The Council of Dads: My Daughters, My Illness, and the Men Who Could Be Me. —Sarah Ewald
