Bruce Cockburn

When: Wed., Feb. 27, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $32-47

It's a shame that Bruce Cockburn will never be as iconic in the States as in his native Canada—he's an extraordinary songwriter. At least that diminished reputation fits his understated and meticulous sound. He began 40 years ago, somewhere between Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan, before developing into his present jazz-roots style. He's also explored world beat and atmospheric modern rock, but mostly, he's a canny witness of the human condition, subtly pondering community connection after someone put a bullet hole in "Peggy's Kitchen Wall" or poignantly surveying U.S. foreign policy in "Nicaragua." —Chris Parker
