Broncho, Bad Weather California, Phil Venable Band

When: Thu., Aug. 2, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $7-9

Can't Get Past the Lips, last year's debut from Oklahoma City bad boys Broncho, is one of those albums that at least felt as though it would make money for its makers. Ragged like an In the Red platter and naughty like a Black Lips offering but with a sense of sing-along refinement sometimes missing in both of those camps, those 10 tracks—with their casual nods to disco and post-punk and snarling blues-rock—suggested a push not only out of the garage but toward mainstream radio. That never happened, but Can't Get Past the Lips remains one of 2011's dark-horse favorites. Tonight, they share the stage with Bad Weather California, an all-American rock act that suggests The Black Crowes on more interesting drugs, or at least doing more interesting things while on the same drugs. The Phil Venable Band opens. —Grayson Currin
