Re: “Orange County teacher Omar Currie could resign in protest

I just read the story about Omar Currie in this week's INDY and I'm one BILLION times more upset about this situation now that I know more details. Despite being a small, rural (as if that's an excuse to be discriminatory) elementary school, it is still governed by the Orange County School board, and the board members should be drawn and quartered for not coming to Mr. Currie's defense - quickly, strongly, and definitively. He chose the book as an exceptionally appropriate way of teaching third graders to stop taunting one of their fellow students as "gay" (as if being gay is a bad thing, anyway). He should be lauded for taking an appropriately educational approach. (I probably would have been more punitive toward the little bullies!) And don't even get me started on the dad (Rodney Davis) who is talking about suing the school system even though he didn't even have a child in the classroom. I wonder if Mr. Davis would have wanted Mr. Currie to address the situation if students had been taunting his daughter as a "slut." There are definitely some folks that should be leaving their jobs over this incident, but Omar Currie is absolutely NOT one of them.

Re: “An addition to Cat's Cradle promises more shows, more intimacy

This sounds great, but did I miss an announcement at some point? For YEARS I heard (and even read in the pages of the INDY) that the Cradle's days were numbered in it's current location because the owners had a long-range plan to redevelop the property. Is that no longer the case? Is the Cradle staying put? This story sure sounds like it...
