Re: “The nightmare of Carrboro without a Cradle

Has anyone asked whether the already-open retail/restaurant spots are doing well in this block? Hickory Tavern should be ok, since it essentially serves as the restaurant for the hotel, but two other restaurant spots are still vacant after over a year has passed. Are the retailers doing well? Have there been problems with plumbing, water leaks, sewer leaks, and air duct dust clouds, which have sometimes necessitated closing early? Are the developers suing the contractors? These shiny new buildings, even when deeply flawed, are not paid for with modest monthly lease prices. The developer is looking at making a fortune that will make their grandchildren and great-grandchildren trust-fund babies. Think about next steps carefully. Is Carrboro looking to become Cary? If so, maybe the developers should be chosen for their deep experience and competence.
