Braxton Cook, a semi-finalist in the 2013 Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition, wowed his way into Juilliard with the prestigious Illinois Jaquet scholarship. Now, the 24-year-old is establishing himself as a regular member of Christian Scott’s band, as well as a collaborator with Wynton Marsalis, Butcher Brown and future Late Show bandleader Jon Batiste. —Sylvia Pfeiffenberger
