Re: “In Wayne County, N.C., Trump’s America Is Angry

I am so bothered by this article. Even more bothered by some of the comments...this persuasive and biased writer has already fuled anger from people that has led to racial comments. I was born and raised in Dudley NC, just barely North of mt.olive. I attended the same predominately African American high school as the kids from Mt.Olive. Do y'all really think for one second that any racially fueled hate would be tolerated in my school? In my town? Of course there are extremist everywhere you go, I can guarantee you there are plenty racist in whatever town Mr.Herring is from. But painting my county in a bad light for likes speaks to the ametuer ability of the writer to think "liberally" and consider all viewpoints. Can y'all not see the cat doesn't write "news" but rather shares opinions that he (he, the news outlet, whoever pays him, don't mean to bash him for doing his job) thinks people "want to hear"? Wayne county is a POOR county, but we are a strong and proud county. When I needed a friend or a hand back in the day, there wasn't always a white person around to help. I can speak to the LOVE shared in this county. Love for your fellow man, respect for people regardless of their opinions. This article does NOTHING to represent my hometown. I have a white family member who retired from Mt.Olive Pickle after 30+ years. I have a Native American relative who has worked at butterball for years. I am most disgusted by the mocking of Christianity in this article. It bothers me to my core the lack of respect it takes to bring up one's religious practices in a negative light. Will you do the same when there is an opportunity to mock other religions? Doubtful. I grew up SO poor, as a lot of us in Wayne did. What being poor will do is humble you, make you appreciate small things that others might overlook. I am proud to be from Wayne county, I'm thankful for the multicultural influences that helped shaped me into the person I am today. This article went from Trump hating to race baiting real quick. I'm sorry for those who fell for it. Racisim is everywhere, it's up to us "readers" and "viwers" to let it consume us or choose to do better. WHEN YOU KNOW BETTER, YOU DO BETTER! (direct quote from a fellow Wayne county resident) Much love to everyone, I'll continue to REP MY CITTTYYY :-) or town, township, stoplight, whatever you call it
