Braid, Prawn, Dikembe

When: Fri., Aug. 14, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $15
Like peers including American Football and Mineral, knotty Midwestern emo quartet Braid burned bright and hot. They released three albums in four years, the last of which was 1999’s Frame & Canvas, before flaming out at the turn of the millennium. Like most of those peers, Braid eventually reconvened. But Braid isn’t interested in reliving the past. Last year’s No Coast isn’t as athletic or explosive as Frame & Canvas, but it recaptures the same fresh-faced energy that marked the band’s mid-’90s output. It establishes Braid as both forerunner to and peer of emo’s current crop, including excellent openers Prawn and Dikembe. —Patrick Wall
