Brad Mehldau & Anne Sofie von Otter

When: Sun., Feb. 27, 7 p.m. 2011
Price: $36-42

Though it's a little late for Valentine's Day, this collaboration—which teams American jazz pianist and composer Brad Mehldau with Swedish opera singer Anne Sofie von Otter—mirrors and expands upon the duo's Love Songs album. Split into two sets, the program's first half allows Von Otter's angelic mezzo-soprano to soar on a selection of traditional lieder from the likes of Brahms, Sibelius and Richard Strauss, while the second act mixes Von Otter's more down-to-earth takes on The Beatles and Joni Mitchell with Mehldau's original compositions. —Spencer Griffith
