Boys Rock for Girls Rock

When: Fri., June 27, 8 p.m. 2014
Price: $15

The men will take the stage, but the women take the spotlight: This benefit for Girls Rock NC, the long-running nonprofit that encourages and fosters young women's musical endeavors, pairs rock-leaning dudes (and Merge labelmates) John Darnielle and The Love Language's Stu McLamb with blues dude Phil Cook and Pierce Freelon's hip-hop outfit The Beast. Be warned, though, that you might not hear The Love Language's laments or the shout-out-loud refrain of the Mountain Goats' "No Children." (This one's for the kids, after all.) Instead, all four acts will focus on music of the women who most inspired them. —Allison Hussey
