Boris, Young Widows

When: Tue., April 30, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $15

It's a good thing Japanese psych-metal band Boris is so prolific. Their catalog is an unequal mix of frustration and fulfillment: A huge miss can stand aside some of their best work, and their blend of styles can be magnetic one moment and repulsive the next. Live, though, that inconsistent output creates a personified mixtape, as the band culls its best material into a massive rush of amplified excellence. Boris tours in America were once so infrequent that the band had to be experienced stateside through releases. Lately they've been touring this country a lot, providing an easy alternative to the diminishing returns of their recorded repertoire. Bracing Louisville, Ky., band Young Widows open. —Grayson Currin
