Bollywood/Bhangra Dance Party: DJ Rang

When: Fri., July 12, 10 p.m. 2013
Price: $7-9

Ranganathan Rajaram, or DJ Rang, is a veteran of the Triangle's legendary Masala Beat Club parties. He now aims to reignite the dance floor spirit of those days. "Nobody was on their phone instagramming or tweeting. People showed up early to dance, and more importantly, people weren't afraid to dance to songs or genres they didn't know—as long as it had a good beat," he says. Rooted in Bollywood and Bhangra, DJ Rang strays from hip hop to Latin, trap, house and reggae. For this launch party, he'll be joined by California DJ Sandeep Kumar in a four-turntable battle. Good thing the party's called "DISHOOM," which is Bollywood onomatopoeia for "KAPOW!" —Sylvia Pfeiffenberger
