Bob Mould Band, Birds Of Avalon

When: Mon., Nov. 14, 8 p.m. 2016
Price: $20-$23
Bob Mould has been crafting chiseled, cathartic songs for decades, from the buzz-saw wail of Hüsker Dü to his fiery solo work. Dave Grohl happily admits to modeling Foo Fighters on the sound of Mould’s nineties trio, Sugar, and while the tempos have drifted toward “mid,” the roar remains unabated. The man who sang “59 Times the Pain” hasn’t exactly mellowed, but these song seethe with a strange kind of jubilation, and this year’s Patch the Sky is one of his best. With Birds of Avalon. —David Klein
