Re: “Durham Gets a New Online Radio Station in Troon, Which Will Focus on Recordings from Area Clubs

While we at community radio station WHUP in Hillsborough think Troon is a great addition to the local music landscape, Mr. Donaghey's description of our streaming service as a "second program area of concern" and our programming as limited in range is simply incorrect. Our online presence has been a key component of our programming from the outset, by design. Not only does WHUP stream all its programming in real time (as do most stations), but we also offer an on-demand service - any of our original shows, any time via our website - as well as a permanent archive of our in-house live music performances. In fact, the majority of our listeners (who hail from around the world, BTW) are listening via our archive and live stream. We also have more live in-studio sessions than any station in the country that we're aware of, with five per week on average plus special ad-hoc sessions featuring out-of-town musicians touring in the area. Troon's concept of broadcasting live from area venues dovetails nicely with our in-house live focus, and we look forward to hearing more, but please don't try and pump yourselves up by mischaracterizing what we do.
