Blue Rodeo

When: Thu., Sept. 29, 8:30 p.m. 2011
Price: $20

Imagine crossing the border into Canada and, instead of seeing a band as big as, say, Wilco, at Raleigh Amphitheater, you can see them at a 300-capacity nightclub. This is kind of what it’s like for Canadian expatriates in the Triangle when Blue Rodeo comes to town (with former Wilco pedal steel player Bob Egan in their lineup, to boot). In their home country, the band has been a star attraction for two decades and plays the big arenas and outdoor sheds; but the U.S. market has never quite caught on, even as the band has continued to put out first-rate roots-rock records. Leader Jim Cuddy has a new solo disc, Skyscraper Soul, out this week, and he’s bringing the whole band along to mark the occasion. You don’t have to be a Canadian to attend, but expect to encounter many delirious Great White Northerners in the audience.—Peter Blackstock
