Blood Red River, Phatlynx, Junko&Fujiyama

When: Wed., Dec. 21, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $5

Blood Red River's surf-styled rock 'n' roll is as action-packed as its name suggests, with raw garage vibes and a go-go dancer affording the instrumental songs a touch of retro noir while avoiding kitsch. Phatlynx is self-described as the "area's finest all-fat guy Link Wray band." The star-studded quartet's repertoire has expanded beyond the patron saint of power chords, though, to include a polka-fied cover of Hendrix's "Purple Haze." Opening act JUNKO & Fujiyama features Japanese-American singer-songwriter Junko. —Spencer Griffith
