Black Tar Prophet, Dead Hand, Crawl, Womb

When: Fri., Nov. 6, 8:30 p.m. 2015
Price: $8-$10
Using only bass and drums, Tennessee’s Black Tar Prophet conjures a dense torrent of sludge. The doom duo’s low-frequency rumbles echo void-staring black metal, while their palette of sounds draws more from the scathing muck of Eyehategod or Weedeater. Georgia’s Dead Hand, by comparison, are uplifting; their post-metal influence shines in crisp, pensive melodies that drop into lumbering doom. Fellow Georgians Crawl keep a brisker tempo as they echo Down’s bitter Southern rock. —Bryan C. Reed
