Black Francis, Reid Paley

When: Mon., Feb. 18, 8:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $15-17

Mr. Charles Thompson, or Frank Black, might be back to using his Pixies-era nom de guerre of Black Francis; he's been releasing albums under said pseudonym since 2007, after all. But expecting Black Francis to sing the songs that made him an alternative rock deity at this show is expecting too much. More likely, he's going to be in what he referred to on a recent live album as "full-on Van Morrison mode." That means he's playing the songs he wants to play, which could include selections from his 2011 collaboration with the show's opening act, gravel-voiced rock troubadour Reid Paley. And oh, man, that album sucked. If you'd like, take a chance at 8:30 p.m. —David Raposa
