Birds of Avalon, The Balsa Gliders, K-Hill's Power of the Tongue

When: Thu., Aug. 4, 6 p.m. 2016
Birds of Avalon simultaneously revive twin-guitar seventies rock and sprawl into spaced-out psych rock. Is that a contradiction? Very well, then: Birds of Avalon is large; it contains multitudes. (Remember: The band now carries a second drummer, too.) Few bands anywhere are better at carving wild weirdness, roaring distortion, and unusual rhythms into instantly catchy anthems. On the outdoor City Plaza stage, the Raleigh troupe’s sound will stretch as far as its ambition. —Patrick Wall
