Billie Joe Shaver

When: Mon., Oct. 13, 8 p.m. 2014
Price: $10-$25
One of country music’s finest songwriters, the “Old Chunk of Coal” Billy Joe Shaver is a diamond many times over. He penned, for instance, Waylon Jennings’ seminal outlaw country album Honky Tonk Heroes. He’s survived an onstage heart attack, his son’s O.D. and a drunken-and-armed bar encounter to release Long In the Tooth. It’s highlighted by the humorous lament “Hard to Be an Outlaw (When You’re Not Wanted Anymore)” and the powerful warmongering lament, “The Git Go.” —Chris Parker
