Bill Kirchen

When: Sun., June 22, 7 p.m. 2014
Price: $12-$20

The guitarist Bill Kirchen rose to prominence in the late-'60s as a Telecaster-slinger for iconic Detroit country-rockers Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen. Their energetic blend of honky-tonk, Bakersfield country, Western swing and rockabilly presaged Texas country. When they broke up in the mid-'70s, Kirchen formed the Moonlighters before going solo in the '90s and releasing nine studio albums. He's a tremendously talented and eclectic player, though his bread and butter remains rootsy rock. After 2010's guest-laden Word to the Wise (featuring Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe and Maria Muldaur), Kirchen followed up last year with Seeds & Stems, revisiting many of his classics.—Chris Parker
