Re: “The thrill of the kill: The triumph of Osama bin Laden

I was struck by Crother's article like few others I've read, because he helped me crystalize a discomfort I was feeling about the Bin Laden killing, There are two issues, I think. First, we brought the Nazis to trial in Nuremburg after WWII, and made them accountable for their crimes. It seems to me that the same course of action might have been possible here. I suspect we considered that course of action, but I've not heard too much discussion about it. Are we so different now than in 1946?

Second, Crowther's point about our reaction to this killing exposes something about us that is disheartening at best. Remember how we felt when some of the people in the Middle East danced in the streets when the Towers fell? The reaction of the crowds in front of the White House was remarkably similar. We seem to be losing our moral compass, and with it, our right to claim any leadership in the world.
