Though it began in 2001, the Bicycle Film Festival—a compilation of bike-themed footage that shows in many cities annually—is making its first visit to the Triangle this year. Screenings are divided up into three different programs: a "Greatest Hits" batch at 2:30 p.m., "Fun Bike Shorts" at 4:30 p.m., and "Urban Bike Shorts" at 6:30 p.m. Triangle Bikeworks sponsors the event, which also includes live music from Jason Kutchma and beer from Triangle Brewing Co. Proceeds benefit Triangle Bikeworks' youth development and leadership programs, through which they've reached more than 300 young riders with Kidical Mass events and summer tours. 2:30–8:30 p.m., $10, trianglebikeworks.org.

An important related note for cyclists, given that bike safety has been on the Triangle's mind since two cyclists died in a horrendous hit-and-run in Chapel Hill in September: Chapel Hill's citywide Bike Plan will be released to the public on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Chapel Hill Public Library, in advance of possible ratification in November. A community forum in the spring led to the creation of a crowd-sourced WikiMap, enriched by more than 1,000 responses to a survey about the town's transportation system. A 15-member stakeholder group used that data to develop recommendations for making Chapel Hill a place where more people can safely ride their bikes to more community destinations. —Chris Vitiello
