Bettie Serveert, Matthew & the Arrogant Sea

When: Mon., Oct. 25, 9:30 p.m. 2010
Price: $12-14

It might sound like damning with faint praise, but calling Amsterdam's Bettie Serveert consistent is by no means a slight. Over the course of nine albums, 18 years and more than a few record labels (including indie king Matador), the quintet's been a stalwart supplier of American-style meat-and-potatoes indie rock, though they're from Amsterdam. This style might not be as fashionable as it once was, but 2010's Pharmacy of Love doesn't concern itself with fashion, and a voice as comforting and charming as Carol van Dyk's never goes out of style. Matthew & the Arrogant Sea, of Denton, Texas, opens. —David Raposa
