Besides (Be-sides): Works of Visual Art by NC Musicians

When: Sat., June 18, 6-9 p.m. 2011
Phone: 919-619-6371

The Barn Gallery—The young and prolific artist and impresario Chance Murray has once again knocked together a conceptual show that, this time more than ever, resembles a house concert. This one-night-only gathering showcases the work of area musicians, including such major figures as Dex Romweber, Katharine Whalen and Melissa Swingle. Naturally, you should expect an eclectic array of work: Murray promises paintings, sculpture, video and sound installations, fabric art and more. Live music will be on the agenda, too: This could be the best—and cheapest—casual concert you'll see all summer. Or not—but you'll have to be there to be sure. Other participating artists include co-curator Judy Woodall, Jamie McLendon, Jim Adams, Ryan Creery, Hunter Landen, Kevin Dixon, John Pardue, Vanessa Neal, Sean Murphy and Julian Weaver. The Barn Gallery is located at 8800 Rapples Drive in northern Orange County. Search for the event on Facebook for more information, or call 919-619-6371. —David Fellerath
