Philadelphia’s Beach Slang gained notice with two EPs that fused wistful nostalgia, youthful romanticism and pop-punk bombast. The band then expanded into a quartet and recorded the forthcoming full-length, The Things We Do To Find People Who Feel Like Us. Landing neatly at the crossroads of retro indie, emo revival and pop-punk, the album’s first single, “Bad Art & Weirdo Ideas,” feels like a bright-eyed version of Joyce Manor’s growing-up laments, a slow take on Dillinger Four’s barroom anthems and The Smiths’ winsome melodies, all at once. —Bryan C. Reed
