Beach House, Jessica Pratt

When: Thu., Oct. 8, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $26-$29
When Depression Cherry, this year’s new LP from Beach House, begins, it feels like stepping into the comfortable and uncanny world you left the last time you listened to the group’s 2012 opus, Bloom. A keyboard drifts into a drone. Kaleidoscopic arpeggios alight over its top. A drum machine skitters in the middle distance. “You and me,” Victoria Legrand intones, somehow above and part of the smooth motion at once, “with our long hair on the gold one.” For the next 40 minutes, and no matter how syncopated the harmonies and rhythms get during “Space Song” or how much “PPP” smears toward psychedelia, Legrand and Alex Scally keep you suspended in that space, totally at ease and at odds with the world. Jessica Pratt opens this terrific, absorbing bill. —Grayson Haver Currin
