Battlemaster, Necrocosm, Datura

When: Fri., Sept. 4, 9:30 p.m. 2015
Price: $7-$9
A metal fan’s metal band, Richmond’s Battlemaster pull from a deep well of metal influences, blending black metal shrieks and death metal’s battery with thrash’s frantic tempos and mosh-primed dynamics. Lyrically, the band strikes a clever balance between the fantasies of power metal and the horrors of death metal. Their March album, Battlehungry and Swordsworn, is a self-aware, Frankenstein-like monster of tropes. Raleigh’s Necrocosm offer powerful melodic death metal reminiscent of early In Flames or The Black Dahlia Murder. —Bryan C. Reed
