Basketball Books

When: Thu., Dec. 9, 7:30 p.m. 2010

Put aside your horror at the way the N.C. State men's basketball team looked at Wisconsin last week, or how the UNC men are stumbling again. Time for a refresher course in the fabled brand of basketball once played in Raleigh and Chapel Hill. (Durham? Not fabled.) Such sweet memories are available in a pair of $30 coffee table books hot off the University of North Carolina Press. Chroniclers Tim Peeler and Roger Winstead (N.C. State Basketball: 100 Years of Innovation) and Adam Lucas (Carolina Basketball: A Century of Excellence) will be on hand for tales of the Red Terrors, the Cardiac Pack, Blue Heaven and the most amazing college basketball player ever—yes, it was David Thompson. If you can't make the free 7:30 p.m. event, signed and personalized books can be reserved; call 828-1588. —Bob Geary
