All indie bands now need to minor in marketing, so it wasn't as big a leap as it might seem when the members of local band Supreme Fiction switched from playing music to filming a web series about appearances, impressions, and snap judgements. In three seasons of Judge a Blank by Its Blank, Carrboro's Bryan Reklis, Tim Fenwick, and Kenny Jones take shots at everything from Johnson Motors to Freddie Gage's infamous sermon LP, All My Friends Are Dead, based on their commercials and covers alone. Billed as Bad News Media, the friends will now premiere their first short film, Basilisk, at Local 506 on Saturday, padded out with other local independent shorts as well as sets from local stand-up comics Brian Burns, Aaron Cobb, and Virginia Wallace. Basilisk is a suspense-thriller about a normal guy who meets a mysterious stranger that changes his life—but how? The trailer gives little away, but, to JABBIB, we're intrigued to find out the deal with this locally filmed debut. —Brian Howe
